< Checking In >

Silly Google for getting rid of Reader...tomorrow, but I am also happy to be forced to update my list of blogs I like now that I need to transfer to a new Reader program. I finally transferred this morning, the last day before it changes. ha. I hope I make the cut onto your new reader!

The last few days we were busy moving out of our apt. There is a lot involved not only in a normal move out, but moving continents because you have to get rid of EVERYTHING that doesn't fit in your suitcases or a few boxes to send via mail. We finally finished the endeavor yesterday morning and checked out. We have been with Jachen's dad since. We are staying at his place for the last 2 weeks we are here in Switzerland, until we have Jachen's VISA and can fly home to Seattle. We are anxious to get to the USA, but we know how fast these 2 weeks will go so we will enjoy them.

TOMORROW is JULY!!! Hooray. So excited, but I am trying not to think about how we are missing the 4th of July...my favorite holiday.

I kinda forgot about blogging today. At one point I remembered, but then I forgot. Jachen was home sick and I had lots on my mental list of things to do today. I am a huge fan of keeping busy.

I have been working on some new pieces for my shop. It's been my goal to create on a more regular basis. I need to keep experimenting and discovering.

We had a rather lazy weekend...Jachen being sick we just hung around the house even though we had plans for a mini trip on Saturday...so that will have to wait till this upcoming Saturday. Hope you had a good weekend!

I watched two 'regional dialect' vlogs, THIS is one of them where I read off the words and questions, this past week and thought it would be fun to do one with the Jachenator...since his regional dialect is far more interesting than my own/I have been wanting to do a video with Jachen so this served as the perfect reason.

So here we are!

also, I failed to mention Romansch is one of the 4 country's languages, but is only spoken currently by about 1% of the population...Jachen's grandma being one of them. {cus she is from the Romansch area}

.....and sorry for being Cyclops for pretty much the whole video. I wasn't aware I was so Cyclops-y until production. Whoops.

< New Photography Blog >

THIS project continues to keep me busy, but a new project has surfaced...I am designing/creating a new blog for my photography! My old photography blog is rather embarrassing. Jachen had the idea last week for me to create a new fresh{or is it 'fresh new'?} photography blog/portfolio to direct people to when someone wants to see my photographs...so today that is what I have been working on. I am still currently working on it so you will be seeing lots of updates the next few days and weeks and soon all my favorite photos I have taken will be in one cozy place.

Also, while in the process, I am revamping this here blog again. I love having LOTS of design/art on my sidebars, but golly was it getting busy. There is now a search bar, which is pretty exciting. I am pausing the blog updating to post this post, so if you happen upon my blog at this time, you may see things changing and disappearing.

< Blog Anniversary//Six Years >

This month SIX years ago I made my very first blog post. My first post was on my first blog called Aesthetic, but I had to stop posting on that blog because my photo quota reached it's limit and I didn't know what to do about that back then. So I created a new blog, this blog {but I still count it as the same blog just a different url}. A fresh start. I called it All Things Lovely because that is really what I post about...anything in life that I think is lovely. Plus I like/use the word lovely...so a perfect name.

Aesthetic was my blog throughout college, which really began after my third year of college so the last 2 years of college are documented. I sure wish I started it my first year, that would be fun to go back and read about. I am so happy the majority of my college experience is documented, well not just my college experiences home life is as well. Those are the years I really got to know myself, my artistic self, my style, my interests, became connected on an adult level with my family and made great new friendships. It is when I began to refine all aspects of life which I could easily say I have been doing ever since. A lot of growing up happens in those years and I am so so so happy I have proof of it. ha.

My first 4 blog posts are in 2006, but then didn't post again for a whole year. In that time of not posting, I was at an art seminar in college and the speaker taught us a lesson that changed my life...no exaggeration{I feel like my life/brain revolves around art, so yes it did}...he said something like "as an artist you need to know what art is going on around you and to be informed in the world of art". He told us it was our job to know, which was something I hadn't thought of before nor done. Ever since then I made it important to me to know more. What a perfect time in my life to hear that advice because it was a time when I started to really figure out what style I was and what my passions were...and was a time when I started the desire to share those things I found on my blog.

Photobucket I specifically remember the Fall when I was off school for the semester and I discovered Etsy. That Fall a lot of things played into me finally realizing what was me...a combination of searching for art, discovering Etsy, A Fine Frenzy's style and music, discovering Urban Outfitters and acquiring a better taste in music all played into that epiphany. I went back the following semester better in my art classes because I finally knew more about myself and knew what art felt like to me. This was also around the time when I got more and more into blogging.

A trail from high school starting to get into photography, being editor of the yearbook, scrapbooking, working at a scrapbooking store, falling in love with layout design, college art classes and the epiphany I had has all lead to me to be the blogger I enjoy being today. Sometimes I will hear a silly remark from someone I know about me blogging and sometimes that makes me feel stupid for blogging...as if I am wasting my time. But then I remind myself this is who I am. Blogging has been with me for six years and I have been a very very steady blogger that whole time. I don't care if someone else doesn't understand it. I have things to say and share and I won't stop that.

Blogging has always been a process for me first. I think that is so important. There are so so many blogs out there right now who I can just tell who blog to get viewers, money and their hearts and being are not really into it. It drives me nuts. I have been blogging long enough to tell who does it for themselves first and those that do it for others/blogging sake. For me I never even considered spreading the news about my blog publicly until this year. Like I said this blog is first and foremost for myself...an artistic expression, life timeline/journal, and just something for me that is innate. But I decided this year that I would like to share all my hard work, findings and life with others. I have done a little "advertising" for my blog, it's nice to know people are a part of All Things Lovely and interested in what I have to share. This was the first year where I have tried getting interaction from others and more involved in others blogs as well. It's been a very slow process getting my name out there, but that's okay.

I have changed and developed a long the way and it's so fun. I know I will be a steady blogger always because I do it for the right reasons. I have noticed a lot of bloggers talking about burnouts and feeling uninspired or how they lost track of why they began. It's sad. People worry too much about pleasing readers with their content instead of just posting what they want. It's your blog silly! There has been times when I thought to myself, "no one cares" "no one reads" "no one comments"...but when I think like that I have to quickly remind myself that it doesn't matter...that really no one could see my blog and that would be fine. I need this creative outlet. It has been a comfort on my lonely days in Switzerland, a way to develop my artist talents, to document my life, to spread inspiring images and to all around just feel myself everyday.

I love when people do their blog's anniversary they post some of their favorite blog posts, so I am going to attempt to do that. HOWEVER, that is sooo hard because I have sooo many blog posts and so many posts that I love. So it will be hard for me to chose.

< Photoshop Collage Tutorial >

I wanted to share how I make my blogposts/collages here on All Things Lovely. This may be something you already know how to do or are not interested in, so then skip it. This is for someone who needs help and this is a step by step process for you who needs it. Even if this just helps one person it would be worth it.

I have Photoshop CS3{so not the most current} and a little older Macbook Pro so these are the steps that work with those, I am not sure if these steps would have changed with Photoshop since, but my guess is they are the same and these tips will still apply. I highly recommend as a blogger that you have Photoshop...Photoshop is actually great for more than just blogging, obviously, so you really should get your hands on it. You can get Photoshop cheaper as a student and that is how you should buy it, if you are not a student get a student you know to get it for you.

These tutorials, I hope are helpful even though they may have been slightly boring. There may be other ways of doing collages, but this is the way I do it. 

I held my camera with one hand so sorry at times they were a little crappy and shaky. And it's weird talking to myself even though I really tried pretending I was talking directly to you.

Today I felt the urge to spice up my blog a little by shuffling out some old design elements and bringing in new ones to make the look more cohesive. I am prettty happy with the change. I feel like I am constantly evolving and renewing my style and taste and I love being able to play around with my blog design to reflect my own evolution. It's fun doing WHATEVER I want because it's my blog...my design space. Tomorrow I could completely change the whole thing again, how refreshing to not be tied down to "one" blog. Have you updated your blog lately?

|| Weekend and Blog Design Update ||

Was it a happy weekend for you? I hope so. This weekend I finallllly updated my blog. Some of what was going on was not quite right, or maybe I was just getting bored with it. Not only did I redesign and rearrange some things on my blog, but Jachen helped me add the page tabs up yonder. Which for now is fine, someday I want to design my own. So check them out!

Also this weekend, I made delicious strawberry shakes, we haven't eaten one shake since we moved here and it was about time! We went on a walk which was something we haven't done together for a few weeks and while on our walk we saw this cute old man having a hard time walking with his bag of groceries. We saw him stop every so often and sit and rest. Jachen asked him if he needed help carrying his bag home, but the old man said he didn't...even though he clearly did. I wish we could have helped him. This kind of thing breaks my heart. Sunday afternoon we drove to Jachen's friend's to pick up her bike she is letting me borrow and then we drove to Jachen's dad's to get his bike that Jachen will borrow this summer. When we got home we tried out the bikes since neither of us have ridden a bike for years and I suck. Holy cow. Her bike is short, but clearly not short enough for me. Jachen managed to lower the bike seat and I changed my shoes from my flat Toms to my running shoes that have more height and that helped. But still, I am not gonna lie riding a bike freaks me out especially since I can't touch the ground well enough. I will have to practice another day. 

This coming weekend my parents will be here in Switzy!! Huzzah!
