recently, i tackled the shed. i spent about 5 straight hours in there going through my boxes. i had to force myself to go put gloves and socks on(it was freezing out there). i had to force myself to go eat lunch. i love organizing and going through things. i went through each box and pulled out the items to give away, items for throw away, items to keep boxed up for the future, and items i want to take to switzerland. for each box staying in the shed i wrote down on a list everything that is in that box. i did this so if while living in switzerland i need something, or just in the future want to know where something is...i can look at my list and know exactly what number box it is in instead of going through each and every box. i was able to eliminate 4 boxes. it was great. i was knee deep, even more so than in this photo. (the boxes on the white shelves aren't mine.) it felt so nice to get rid of clothes/old art projects/shoes/random papers/etc/etc/etc i didn't need and refresh myself as to what i have.
my dearest and most favorite sunglasses were tossed in the trash today. not one of the finer moments in life. a couple months ago they broke and i held on to them so i could fix them. as i was cleaning my room the other day i decided i just needed to throw them out. so out they went. with my upcoming move to switzerland i am trying to rid myself of things i don't need. little by little i let go of things. it is a great feeling. oh, and that is rootbeer i am drinking in that glass. don't fret.
most amazing film. when my dad first showed me the trailer, i was in awe. it looked very interesting, powerful and the cast looked amazing. tonight, i went to see it. it blew me away. the trailer doesn't even capture the intensity of what i just watched. i love powerful films, but i think this is the most powerful and amazing portrayal i have yet to experience. i can't think of a better word than, amazing. i will tell you why.
first of all the cast. THE CAST. i don't even know who my favorite was. where do i even begin with them. im almost about to give up on writing this post because i cant handle this task at "reviewing" this film, but im not giving up. each character had so much strength, depth and story. each actor was amazing it made me feel as though i was watching the real men. this movie was based on a true story of men escaping a prison camp in Siberia during WWII and walking their way to freedom, climbing mountains and desert to find india, a free nation. even colin farrell, who i typically have no opinion of, won me over in this role as the rough and corrupted russian. dont even get me started on how amazing ed harris and jim sturgess were. there are three actors i am not familiar with, him&him&him with who played amazing, there is that word again, roles. i said to myself in the movie "who ARE these guys." i can't even do them justice with my words.
the movie was heavy, deep, intense...all of the above. you see men walking and walking. you see starvation and desperate measures to preserve their lives. see a human kindness that is rare. you see respect of anothers existence, ones freedom and the need to survive. however, with such a heavy load this film managed to have humor of the best kind. flawless moments of ease. moments where you will laugh out loud. and so will that man in the theatre who laughs really loud.
it felt like an experience in itself watching this journey, these particular men's journey. the film was long. it felt long. i felt a glimmer of what long was while watching men who really knew what long was. every moment was perfection. there were moments of a brutality only those being invaded in WWII could understand. moments of suffering only these men crossing the himalays could understand. this film made me feel like i experienced something meaningful. it made me realize how teeny tiny my worries/fears/problems are compared to what they could be. that the fight is there. that we can fight through it all. this film is a great reminder of how much it is worth to not give up.
i love trying on nail polish at the store as i am sure you do too. i mostly do it when i want to buy one and i usually don't go this crazy at the store...but this brand was on sale so i had to try some of the colors on. 20min later, sorry mom who was wondering where i was, i had one on each finger. stubby fingers. i ended up with half of the colors you see here. you know cus i NEED more colors. hah.
these little guys have been ON MY MIND since i found them in appenzell switzerland. first order of business when i arrive in switzerland (well after returning from italy, honeymoon) i will be snatching up one of those holding a deer. one lucky gnome will be my friend as mr jachen goes off to work. we will sit out on the porch together sip orangina and snack on bread and cheese while peering out into the rolling swiss hills that surround us. not all day of course, but as long as i want.
i love sarah blasko's music. i love when music takes me to another place and time. has the ability to create a dreamworld, taking you to a world that doesn't exist in reality. i am very drawn to that in music. her music does that for me. that if i close my eyes im taken to my imagination. i think this music video, does that exact thing. it takes you into imagination. her music is feel good, dynamic and full of depth. (other characteristics i am drawn to). she has had a few hairdos of the years, all beautiful, but i especially love this cute short do. it is so sweet. i have always loved this length. i think more people need short hair.

miss clara (my niece) loves "talking on the phone" to jachen. when she is freaking out crying hand her the phone and have her talk to jachen and she will stop crying. it is also my method to get clara to come over and sit with me. in this video she wouldn't just come to me, but she sure ran over to talk to "yayee".
Some fun drawings i made yesterday at a nanny job. i sure love making pictures like this. i know they are simple but it is relaxing and i love finding beautiful color schemes. i love seeing what my hand comes up with.
i am in lovvvve with this. both the song and the music video. both combined makes for one breathtaking piece of art. i especially love the parts that switch to black and white. so beautiful. i love the way he moves. the colors are so perfectly vivid. everything. someone should be taking home an award.
a few weeks ago my cousin meredith bought me this glitzy nail polish. so nice of her. the color is called glitzerland and is part of O.P.I's swiss line of colors. how fun! now you know why she thought of me. my fingers had been bare for the last few weeks and today finally painted them, in glitzerland. what a treat. if you would like a soft but rockin' gold, get glitzerland. oh, and go to switzerland while you're at it.

NEED. i wouldn't be using it as a towel of course...but a wall hanging. i love the colors you chose and you know very well i'm a sucker for triangles. leah duncan, you get me every time!
I am in love with pink hair these days. it's true. you may see me before i die with pink hair...or a strand of pink hair. i may be thirty five, i may be sixty. or i may hate pink hair in a year. i love the soft pink more than the hot pink, but for some reason i find it all lovely (when it's done more lovely than grungy).
i am excited to share another little taste of what is going on in wedding world. wedding planning, shopping and hand making is all i do these days. its great fun. its the ultimate designing project...naturally my dream.
