|| Fasnacht In Basel//Part One ||

We had a great day yesterday in Basel for their cities Fasnacht carnival. I took quite a bit of photos so I decided I would tell the story and show you the photographs in parts, otherwise it would be one passive post. We arrived at Jachen's dad's at 9am and then we were on our way with him. We drove along the Rhine river lining the Swiss and German borders so Germany was there along the way which I loved. We arrived around 11am and then made our way along the Rhine until we came to a little ferry which floats across the span of the river bringing people over to the other side of Basel. After we got off the little ferry, we climbed several staircases to get to the main level of the city. We ate lunch and then nearby was where Jachen's dad's Fasnacht group was. We hung out with them for a bit, Jachen and I went inside the Cathedral and then made our way down to the spot we would be at for the Fasnacht celebration. After we staked out where we would be we wondered around a bit. When we came back to our spot there were a mass amount more of people there.

A few weeks ago, we were at Jachen's dad's for dinner and he explained to me everything about Fasnacht and how it works. He is a Basel Fasnact expert because he has been a part of it for years. This was the first year he wasn't part of the parade though, but he did help in the planning of his group. It was interesting to learn how much organization and rules there were for this event. It was great to know back information. It was great to be there with him since he was part of the event and knew so much about the city. In Basel, Jachen and him took turns telling me about the city and filling me in on anything and everything. It was great to be there with Jachen and share this day with him. Jachen was born in Basel and went there as a child and teenager, but hasn't been back there for a few years so he really enjoyed being back. Basel is a very large beautiful city, but I only saw a small part of it. I hope to go back in the near future to see more.

Here are some photos of what we did before the celebration started at 2. We had a few hours until the craziness, officially, began.

Tomorrow, Monday, is going to be a very exciting day! We are headed over to Basel with Jachen's dad to go to Fasnacht! I am so excited. Fasnacht is huge in Basel. I have been to the one in Luzern and twice in Wadenswil, but I hear Basel is where it's at. I will be taking a million pictures, can't wait for that. Below are some of my favorites from the Fasnacht in Wadenswil 2010.

Well, I sure love this little loft. I love all the wooden beams, the brick, the black influences and subtle use of color. I really like the mix between "french country cottage" and "modern industrial". I would love a wall of tree wallpaper like this home. I would love to spend some time in a home like this.

I would love to someday own a variety of unique graphic plates instead of a matched set. I like the idea of a matched set too, but I like even more a mix match of bold plates. Also, I am not going to have enough couches for all the pillows I love. Ha. Just kidding, I am sure I won't own more pillows then I need. I love that elephant pillow for a baby, would make a great baby gift.

Waking Ned Devine is a really funny, clean movie. Two things I like. However you do see two old men's naked behinds at one point. It is staged in Ireland so the accent is thick and you may need your subtitles on to watch it. Ha. But oh man, good clean fun right here. One thing I love is funny old men, and this movie has two really funny old men. If you haven't seen it, watch it and if you have already seen it, watch it again.

I will give you a little of the plot summary for those that may want it. A man in the village dies after learning he won the lottery so his friends that find him dead concoct a plan to get the money regardless.
Oh man, what a hoot.

|| Speaking Of Hair ||

I must say first that the picture of me above is my hair after a shower...just air dried. Nothing in it. Product free. All natural. Also, forgive the zombie expression I am making in that picture. Do you notice how my hair is swallowing my head? That is a normal occurrence especially when I don't do anything to my hair OR when I blow dry it out. I really love reading what products others use and review, but sometimes people use/show products that are a little bit too fancy for me and hard to find. I like using products I can find at Target or Walmart. Ha. So, I wanted to share the hair products I use and some hair tips. As you can see my hair is out of control. It is super thick and curly. I often call it "my mop". I have come across a few people in life who, when talking about hair, try to tell me they have thick hair like mine...umm dear child your hair is baby thick, you don't know what thick is. The only people who have as thick of hair as mine are related to me. This hair of mine is hot and heavy...especially when it's long. My hair now, as pictured above, is too long for my liking even though I did cut it myself recently...I swear it already grew back. When I get my hair cut I pretty much say the same thing every time..."a little above shoulder length, layers and thin it out. I don't want my hair to end up in a triangle shape, of course. I like it so that I can still pull it back" And then I usually add in at some point during the haircut, "I mentioned thinning it out right?" because I am always paranoid they may forget it. Thinning it out really makes a difference. I am not a risk taker in general and that goes for my hair as well. The riskiest I get with my hair is straightening my hair, getting bangs and occasionally I have dyed it red...but with a washout box. Actually, I think cutting my bangs short, like Amelie's, was a pretty risky that first time, but one risk that ended great, resulting in several more times cutting them short.

My hair is constantly changing. Is your hair like that? Or have you pretty much had the same hair all your life? I was born with lots of dark dark hair. Then it turned blond when I was really young. Then went to a brown as a kid and was straight. Still thick of course, but straight. Then in middle school my hair started going curly...and I really didn't know what to do about that. High school my hair started to get darker and I discovered the flat iron. Back then it took me like 4hours to straighten my hair from beginning to end so I rarely straightened it. I hardly did much with my hair in high school, I really didn't like wearing it down. Once, I think my senior year I cut my hair pretty short, the shortest I have had it. In high school, I put some red streaks in, but you really couldn't see them. Then after high school/starting of college my hair started going really curly and that is when I began to wear it down. I discovered using the diffuser in college. I had realllly good hair in my five years of college life. Lots of different haircuts and that is when I dyed my hair red for the first time. I think part of it was I actually DID my hair and started learning how to manage the mop on my head. Pretty much as soon as I graduated my hair grew less curly, still curly but less. And this last year my hair is pretty blah. Not to mention I am pretty sure it falls out more than ever. I have always been super cautious about who cuts my hair, because in my head I think that hair dresses have never cut hair like mine therefore they don't know what they are doing. It took me until my second year of college to let someone in that small town cut my hair. Needless to say, I am not getting a hair cut in Switzy. I refuse. I don't think I have ever seen a Swiss person with curly hair. Also, it would just be too expensive for a risk of someone here cutting it. I hardly ever do my hair these days...partly because I hardly go anywhere and also because they don't sell Curls Rock here and I am using mine sparingly. Though my hair has changed in length, shape, texture, color and my bangs change lenghts one thing that has remained the same is that I don't have split ends, I don't think ever. And if I do its at the back of my head where I can't see them. I think this is due to rarely putting heat on it, I don't put permeant dyes in and I shower sparingly. My hair is pretty dang healthy.

But, when I DO, do my hair this is my process and products...however most of this process is pretty much for curly hair. I hope all or some of this is helpful.
A. Ever since I started buying my own shampoo and conditioner I have been using Herbal Essences, well this one. Then they changed their product. So that is why I still use the pink bottle even though I really don't need color treatment. It doesn't smell AS good as the original, but still good. Actually, I think I have seen the original in various stores, but I keep with the above regardless. There may be better brands out there for shampoo and conditioners, but Herbal Essences hasn't done me wrong.
B. ALSO I sometimes use the blue bottles. Oh man this smells gooood also I swear my hair is softer after using the blue bottles. I am currently using the blue bottles because my pink bottles ran out. I have also used the orange Herbal Essences too once or twice. But just in general I like Herbal Essences. I have used over the years some Suave, Kirkland brand, Redken, Head and Shoulders, Fructis and maybe a few others if borrowing. But, Herbal Essences is still my favorite.
C. I LOVE this product. Poor me I can't buy it here and I am all out. However, I did find ONE product here that is for the same thing, but it cost 19francs for a really small bottle, so clearly I use that sparingly. This product I use after my shower. After I have let the major wetness out of my hair I spray this in my hair while still wet before I brush it. It is a leave in conditioner so it helps with my tangles when I brush or run my fingers through. So I have been using less conditioner or no conditioner in the shower since I started buying this. Also, it smells AMAZING and I am pretty sure my hair is smoother after using it too.
D. THE best product to shape curls. In college I used a lot of gel and mousse in my hair, but that just made my hair crispy or wet looking. I like my curls to look dry and natural, but still have a good hold. Curls Rock does that. This product is a bit pricey, $13 I think, BUT so worth it and you only need a dab for each use. Put a little dab in when your hair is damp and run it in your hair and then after I do my curly my hair technique which I will tell you about in a second.
E. I love this product, but I don't need it very often. I have had my bottle since the first time I bought it several years ago because you only need a dab too. Like less then penny size. I usually use this frizz serum like the day{s} after I do my hair when my hair is a little bit frizzy from sleeping on it. It helps get rid of that. Just gently work a little bit of it throughout the frizzy parts. Another bonus is after you wash your hands from using the serum your hands are super soft.
F. When I do use hairspray I prefer this one. My mom uses it and once I needed some hairspray I used hers then fell in love. I don't like a very strong spray because I don't want it showing shiny nor being sticky. I like a hairspray that is light, but still does the trick. Sometimes I will use a little for all my hair and sometimes just a little for my bangs. When I say a little, I mean like once around my head of hair fast.
So, what is the curly hair trick? Well...it's too hard to explain with words, but if you realllly want let me know and I will either take pics or a video. But this technique will not only define amazing curls, but it eliminates frizz.
Another hair tip, DONT straighten your bags with a hot iron and if you must...barely, I am talking barely do it. Especially if your bangs are thing bangs.What you really should be doing is taking a round brush and blow drying them straight. Your bangs will look much fuller and well, how they should if you don't use a hot iron.

After I do my hair...see less scary, less frizzy, curls are defined and less swallowing of my head.

Above, like it says, it is pointing to THE best haircut I have ever had, back in 2008, but I have never been able to get another one like it. The haircutting genius that cut my hair that day gave me amazing layers and thinned it like crazy. Also as you can see perfect bangs as well. I would have my hair like this everyday if I could.

I hope some of these products help you maintain smooth, yummy smelling, tame curls and frizz free hair without hurting your wallet. And Stephanie, you WILL be bringing me some of that Aussie leave in conditioner and Curls Rock when you come. I first had Activia when I was in Switzerland as an Aupair. I got sick on the plane ride back from Egypt, for about two weeks I would get random stomachaches. So my boss suggested I try their Activia yogurt. Wow, tasty! Who knew!? You know how yogurt can have that flavor in it that just makes it taste...well like yogurt? Like almost a bad after taste, but not even just after, but during. If that makes sense. Activia doesn't have that flavor. It is a very tasty yogurt. I have only eaten the strawberry flavor, but I am sure they are all good. I still buy it because not only do I like the taste, but I like the size. A good amount of yogurt, not too much. And of course it is known for helping your digestive system, so there is another bonus. So if you need a new yogurt, try this brand. It's not JUST for old people which the commercials seem to emphasize.

|| THE Most Delicious Candy EVER ||

I am going to try and not make you jealous, BUT if you like coconut flavor then these candies are for you. These eggs only come out at Easter time and only at the grocery store called Coop. I first discovered them when I was an Aupair here, I think the mom I worked for had bought them. I fell in love. THEN, when we first moved here at the end of April I found a bag even though Easter had just passed. Now, lucky me, Easter is out in the stores already and the other day I picked up a bag of these mouthwatering eggs. They are coated in white chocolate which ordinarily I wouldn't like, but you can't really taste it with these. All you can taste is the most divine, smooth, milky taste of coconut. I am pretty sure it is the most delicious thing I have ever put in my mouth. EVEN better than my favorite Cadbury Mini Eggs that come out at Easter time in the states. I sure could go for some of those though. The only problem is these Cocos eggs are 6.20francs a bag...a bit on the pricey side. Or maybe it's a good thing because then I wouldn't load up on them. However, I am tempted to save a bag in the freezer until my sister and brother in law come in June...we will see. Somebody has got to try them! Jachen won't because he doesn't want ANYTHING to do with coconut. Weirdo. Now, I think I will go eat one.

I loved the Wizard of Oz when I was younger, but now it just gives me the heebie jeebies. Regardless, I LOVE this wicked witch bookmark. So quirky, funny and just plain cool.

We have a mystery going on over here. THIS hoodie is nowhere to be found. I noticed it was missing in December when we started packing. Jachen had misplaced it once before, but after a week I found it in another area of our large closet. BUT, this time it's missing...we even packed up the whole house and moved and still couldn't find it. What is weird is that we literally never went anywhere. Jachen wore it to work and that is just about the only place. Where could it be? Will we find it? He got that sweatshirt on our honeymoon and he lives in hoodies so I would like to find it. Me oh my.

Did I tell you our apt heating problem is solved? We have ample heating now. Almost too much warmth actually. We leave our new heater on low in our bedroom over night and I always wake up from being too hot and turn it off. Actually, now that I think about it I think we should try sleeping with it off. I try not to turn heat on til about 3 in the afternoon so that it's not on for hours during the day.

So we think the mystery of who lives upstairs is solved. The other morning when Jachen walked out our door to go to work he met the old man who lives upstairs. The old man jibber jabbered to Jachen about some jibber like old men do. But, it's funny because somedays he listens to the funniest euro techno music. So now knowing it's an old man it's funny. I usually hear the beat of the techno, that's about all. In fact, right now I faintly hear some music upstairs, Swiss music...I don't know which is worse techno or Swiss. I need to put on some music to drown it out pronto.

We were without a washing machine for about a week, maybe even a little over a week. The pipes froze because it was deathly cold in Switzy. Finally last night we were able to do a load of laundry that seriously was piling up. I can't wait til the day, someday, we own a WORKING washer and dryer IN our home.

Our new favorite meal, that I have made twice now lately is Cabbage Patch soup. Yum. I made it once in college, but I grew up eating it when my mom would make it. So it was Jachen's first try and he loves it. Well, he is actually the easiest eater so of course he would like it. I make a big batch and it lasts us 3 meals. I love making meals that lasts several meals and luckily both of us can eat things multiple times and not get sick of it.

Do I want to wash that large pile of dishes in the sink? No. But I will. On mornings that we both shower, there isn't enough hot water to wash dishes and so those dishes on that day add up. Lame sauce.

So you know how my ring is this pretty aquamarine color, well supposed to be at least? It is full on green now...which means I seriously need to get it cleaned. I don't even like to wear it these days. Luckily I have my sweet little heart wedding band to save the day.

Are you watching Parenthood? You better, if not. But how much do you love the love relationship btwn Amber and Bob?? OH my. That is all I want to see! I sure hope it works out for them.

I feel like I sound like a broken record, but I am SOOO over this winter. So, so ready for spring and summer. I don't even care right now how cute boots and scarves are...I have had it with winter!

I may have said this before, but I want to bring it up again. Several times a week I dream about either being late for a class, not knowing where a class is, forgetting about a class that I missed several classes of and was now super behind in OR forgetting to do a major class assignment. These dreams are very stressful and I wake up a little bit worried, but then force a reminder that I graduated. I finished. It's not real. It is this really weird feeling and without fail every time I have one of these dreams I feel the stress and worry so real while dreaming not just after. Or at least it feels that way. I don't like it.

I really love this show.

I can't wait to go back here this summer.

HOORAY, he is here!

He is a bit on the early side, but he just couldn't wait I guess!

I couldn't wait either. Lisa, my sister in law went into the hospital on Valentine's day and didn't have him til 2/16 like it says above. The whole time I kept checking my Instagram to see if there would be a new baby on it and kept checking my email for any updates. Finally, this morning I found the above! He sure is a little guy. I can't wait to see his face. There was a time when for a few years I was without nieces and nephews, then there was Leah for a few years. Now just a few years later, Colin makes number EIGHT. In just a few months there will be baby number NINE which soon we will find out if that baby will be a boy or a girl. I sure love all these nieces and nephews and kids running around. It is so great to see our family getting bigger.

My brother and sister in law tried for a long time to have a baby, but it just wasn't the time. A couple summers ago they found Alyssa a darling two year old and she joined our family. {The little one in the swimming goggles above} A great blessing and joy. Now, the timing was right. Baby Colin is here. What a blessing he is.

What our Valentine's day looked like

Jachen came home from work to find hearts all over the apt and then after changing out of his work attire into his date attire, we went on a date into St. Gallen. We hit up Lolipop a candy store where we bought some candy and american soda, the bookstore to check out books, a chocolate candy shop, but then decided to just buy some chocolate at Coop, and then went and got Durums for dinner. We left the city and at home we watched Harold and Maude while eating our sweets and drinking our new soda. I love going on dates with my sweet valentine.

\\I LOVE that pretty bouquet. I LOVE peonies for one. Also, that peony is gold dusted! Oh my. Also, love those white flowers with the purple inside, don't know their name. ALSO the photo of the bouquet is lovely...on gold glitter fabric? Yes, please!
\\SO SO IN LOVE with that laundry room. You won't believe what it looked like before, go have a look. You know how I am in love with white walls these days...well they painted their wood panels white! Favorite. Also, since owning my own portable/rolling clothing rack I have come to love them. And what a great idea to have one in the laundry room. Also, I love the idea of having an area to fold clothes in the laundry room. I just love the styling, brightness and user friendly laundry room.
\\Clearly I am in love with those white and pink stump tables. Clearly. Ps. I don't think they really go with that room...actually that room is pretty random, not a good random. However, I do like the couch, rug, tables and lamp separately.

What a hoot he is. That picture was taken a few years ago on Christmas morning. He had part of his Halloween gnome costume out in the car so he went and got it so he could look like a Christmas elf when passing out the presents. Classic. You can read more about this guy, here.

I had big plans to take lots of photos of our grocery shopping adventure, BUT I forgot until the very end. Sorry, next time. When we go grocery shopping I am pretty focused on the task. This was our first time going shopping on a Friday evening, we usually go on Saturday mornings...when EVERYONE is out shopping. Last time we went on a Saturday we had to wait several minuets for an available cart and that place has lots of carts. Turns out not many people go shopping on Fridays, so it was pretty relaxed and we didn't feel so on edge or rushed.

For those of you who don't know, we drive to Germany every two weeks to do our, what I call..."big shopping". That is where we get the bulk of our groceries and then we get produce, eggs, bread, milk and a few various other things here in Switzerland. It takes us about 40mins to drive to the first grocery store called Kaufland. Kaufland is like the Walmart of grocery stories...busy, inexpensive and ghetto. But, it's great. We shop in Germany for the variety of food and prices are better. There are certain things we get at Kaufland and then certain things we get at a grocery store called Edeka. Edeka has a little bit higher prices and is a much newer and nicer store. Two weeks ago when we were grocery shopping, I spotted an Edeka closer to Kaufland. {the Edeka we had been going to was near a mall and we had to park in the mall garage and walk to the Edeka. This new Edeka has it's own parking garage which is super nice and helpful} Tonight after Kaufland we went and checked out the new Edeka. LOVE IT. This one is much bigger, even newer and had lots of great products that the previous Edeka did not. As you can see above, they sell a Betty Crocker chocolate cake! YUM, but look at that price! Also, as you can see they sell canned rootbeer which I am so, so happy about. I even found a Campbell's tomato soup, but it was pricey. I will have to take more pictures next time we go. Tonight we spent time wandering around the store educating ourselves on the products they sell. We are pretty excited. AND the parking was/is free on Fridays, lucky. {kaufland parking is free too}

A funny note about Kaufland, they have a sign out before you go inside that requests that people not bag their groceries in the store, but we have always broken that "rule" and bagged {ps you bag your own food in Germany and Switzerland}. Bagging is just as fast as not bagging, either you are putting the food in the cart or into bags. Some shoppers I have spotted breaking "the rule" too and others just pile all the randomness back into their cart then into their trunks. We actually use a small crate and two bags when shopping and so we fill those. Just as fast! Hopefully that makes sense. Maybe I'll try to take video or pictures of that next time.
It's kinda a funny thing.

Ps. I don't support or drink alcohol, energy drinks or tea drinks{well I do promote herbal tea}, but I do support great packaging so that is what I was taking pictures of. Jachen picked up that Duff Beer and said, If I drank beer I would buy this. {if you don't know Duff Beer is the brand of alcohol Homer Simpson drinks} I love those tins of ice cream, pretty huh?

I can't even HANDLE how amazing this wedding is. James, the bride, seriously has style. Every single photo of the wedding is amazing and I had a hard time choosing which to post so I decided to showcase the design aspect of the wedding. She clearly had an amazing venue, but even without that it still would have been amazing. I absolutely lovvve the gold tipped black feathers hanging from the ceiling. I just can't get over homes with stunning white walls and ceilings. I don't think it's for every home or living space, but wow when it's done in the right house it is so stunning. This home is doing it right. I love the white framed mirror, shelving, the armoire and the white crib. Fabulous. And don't get me started on the amazing art that adds those amazing pops of color. The art piece over the crib is my favorite. I also love the idea of painting the wood floor white in some rooms. There will be no end to posting white walled homes, hopefully you don't get sick of it.

We received a new heater. Which was a lot smaller than we thought we would be receiving, but so far heats up nicely.

Received a nice card and mixed cd in the mail, thanks Chantel! I always appreciate some happy mail and not some nasty bill. That is all we get these days.

We picked up some DELICIOUS brownie pecan ice cream bars at the grocery store this evening. My new favorite.

I skyped almost my whole family. They all just kept getting on Skype and wanting to chat, I love that. First the Tachers, then my dad{sorry dad I forgot to take a picture of you}, then with Steph and Henry{yummy looking red velvet brownies, huh?} and then the Quigley's hopped on for a bit. That Xander babe is funny. I got to see him walk, last time I saw him he was a wee little thing.

I have been wanting this daily journal or one like it because I love the idea of having just a few lines a day to write that day's daily activities. I think it would be fun in a few years to look back on our daily routine and what we filled our time with. Until I find a journal like that, I need to get back to updating life on my blog which I had, for the most part, been doing over here.
\\It is either cold or freezing for the majority of the day in our apt. Outside it has been freezing and that freezingness has been leaking into our apt...I also think it is the BAD heaters in this apt. We are in the works of fixing this and I hope soon enough we can be warm regularly. The renter just keeps saying they aren't broken and her idea of fixing the problem is providing us with yet another heater...so we have 3 heaters plus a rolling portable heater and now we will be getting another portable heater. Annoying, our apt isn't big enough for all these heaters.
\\Our apt has condensation problems too. It has to be a Switzerland thing because I don't think I have ever heard someone talk about having to open windows during the day everyday in the States. Like the walls in our bedroom get wet. So we are supposed to, even in our contract it says to, open the windows for at least 5min a day. So I do that, and a)it doesn't help that our apt is already cold so I hate it and b)even though I am opening them we still have some condensation issues. So the window has to be open when we shower{cus of the steam} in an already cold apt. See the problem? I hope this gets resolved.
\\We got snow last week and it pretty much has stayed put since and little has been added to it. The only difference is the decrease of temperature outside...which has been keeping me inside. I am not a fan of walking in snow and I am pretty paranoid I might slip and hurt either ankle. This is a real thing, I am paranoid. I had enough ankle problems for my lifetime.
\\We have been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Oh my, so awful. I don't know which is worse Sarah Michelle Gellar's acting, the stupid monsters or the awful fighting scenes. BUT we enjoy it.
\\The book I am currently reading is Eragon. Jachen bought it for me for Christmas and I actually really like it. I love the writing style and I enjoy the read. I am so into books these days.
\\Our baby pumpkin is still alive and well, pictured above.
\\One of my FAVORITE parts of the day is receiving pictures or video of my nephew Henry which I get pretty much everyday. Isn't that picture above of him SOO cute? Look at him chillin' in that cart. What a cutie. I haven't met Henry yet, he was born right after we moved to Switzerland. Silly boy. I will meet him in person this June when he and his parents come to visit. I am counting down for that day. Sometimes my nephew Xander{Henry's cousin} appears in some of the photos and videos, that is happy too.
\\I watch a lot of Seinfeld, well that's pretty typical.
\\I am so ready for warm weather. I almost can't even remember what it's like to be warm outside.
\\I constantly have dishes needing to be washed in the sink. It never ends. I just don't have enough counter space for clean dishes so it takes me a long time to get through the stack of dirty ones.
\\I constantly have dreams about going home and visiting home. And in that dream I am always needing to go shopping to get things I can't buy here. I am always at Target shopping in these dreams. What I wouldn't give to go home for just one day.
\\I could really go for some of these Valentine's candy and a rootbeer float.
\\I am pretty sure I need this druzy ring or any druzy ring. Jachen and I went to La Conner Washington, summer 2010 when he came to Seattle to visit me and we went inside this little jewelry store and there I saw druzy for the first time and fell in love. I have been itching for some druzy since.
\\I still have a fantastic husband, almost 10 months being married.

IN LOVE with this show

I started this series back in college, but only made it through the second season because the semester ended or I graduated, can't remember which. I have been wanting to finish the series since. A few weeks ago I started from episode one and just finished this four season series. WOWZA. So, so amazing. Even though I had seen, a few years ago, the first two seasons they were just as suspenseful and stressful as before. This show is not for the weak stomach there is a lot of killing, arguing, and evil characters fill each episode. The show is heavy and meaty, while being very smart and well done. The premise of the show is Michael Scoffield is this genius who gets himself into prison so that he can break out his brother who has been wrongfully accused of killing and who is about to be put to death for it. Though he is a genius his plans to escape keep failing and changing because of the people that come into his life at the prison, which he didn't account for. The whole series is filled with things that go wrong, twists and turns. There are many noble and good characters who are fighting and surviving so they can do the right thing. Every minuet of the show is fast and clever and you NEVER know who is going to die and what is going to happen. The episodes and seasons get meatier and meatier and the evolution of story and characters are brilliant. Characters that you hate in the beginning evolve into ones you care about and end up having compassion for.

At first Jachen didn't want to get into the series so he let me watch it during the day while he was at work. But he saw bits of the first season and became interested right away in the characters and story. During the next seasons I would fill him in on what was happening even though a lot of it is really hard to explain because really, so much happens! Jachen ended up getting hooked in and watched the final season with me. I knew he would love it.

This show really is just brilliant from the beginning to the very end.

The show has this hidden message of everything happens for a reason.

And not so hidden is the message of good prevails and that their can be a struggle to do what's right, but that the fight is worth it.

Amanda Seyfried//Mostly I just think she is darling. Loved her in Mamma Mia and she is just darling in everything else. I loved her in Letters to Juliet where she played a cute and down to earth girl which seems to be her thing. I didn't love the movie In Time that she is in, but she was sure stunning in it.

Schuyler Fisk//I love her! Not only is she an amazing musician, but such a natural actress. She was great back in The Baby-Sitters Club and Snow Day days and loving her even more in her current roles in the movie Restless and I'm Reed Fish. She was the only good thing about the I'm Reed Fish movie. She has this breezy and natural feel to her acting. It's refreshing. I get excited when I see she is in a movie.

Chloe Moretz//A sweet young actress who is turning into something big. I can't wait to see her in Hugo and Dark Shadows.

Jennifer Lawrence//I loved her in X-Men First Class and I can't wait to see her in The Hunger Games.

I am seriously in love with these body washes.

I have mentioned the grapefruit lemongrass, here and I am here to say it is still a favorite. I showered this morning and it's now after 7pm and I can still smell the delicious grapefruit lemongrass on my skin. The pomegranate lemon verbena is a new scent to me, however I have been using the Dove scent deodorant for a few years. They sell both here in Switzy, LUCKY me, and I couldn't be more happy about that. Especially since my all time favorite I can't buy here...which is the Cherry blossom shower gel...why oh why is there no Bath and Body Works here!?

The first app I put on my Itouch when I got it back in July was the Instagram app. For those that don't know what the app is...it is an app that takes photos, then you have the option to use one of their vintage filters to add a different lighting effect. Then the image is added to your Instagram photo album, instantly, where others that are following your album can see. Then if I am following someone their photos get alerted to me on a stream of photos. If you want you can either comment on them or "like" them.

After a few months I stopped using the app to keep photos and just used it to take and use the filters then would delete them off the app. Recently I found out that my sister Stephanie had Instagram. DUH, she HAS an Iphone. Also her husband Rob. Then I found out my brother Jacob and his wife Lisa and Instagram on their Iphones as well. So I have started using the app again. It has been fun seeing images they post and the funny comments exchanged. It is great to see my brother on it because I don't get to hear from him and his family as much. ALSO, I just saw my brother in law Mark has it on his Iphone and I hope him and my sister Natalie add photos.

This last Sunday at church I took a picture of my new church shoes since I hadn't shown anyone them yet. I named that photo "church shoes". Then I took a picture of Jachen's silly white socks he accidentally wore to church. Later that night, because of the time difference, my brother Jacob posted his "church shoes". I laughed out loud when I saw it. Then Monday morning, because of the time difference, I woke up to my sister Stephanie and her husband Rob showing their "church shoes". That gave me a good laugh too. So funny they all are. AND it turns out all the guys wore similar shoes to church. It has become a fun way to stay connected and to see what images they take throughout their day.

I am just so glad January is over! Who is with me??

It has been a busy and exhausting month transitioning from the house to the apt and all that entails. We are living our new life and will now be living this life until our Switzerland time is up. It started snowing yesterday, our first real snow since living down here by the lake. We have been spoiled to have our first three weeks living here snow free. I was hoping for a few more weeks before the snow would arrive, but but I guess those clouds had other plans. Today the snow is coming down as well. Yuck. I am always ready for Winter to pass me by, but I look forward to the upcoming months despite the snow. Fresh starts are always good. I look forward to the experiences that are ahead. I can already tell February is going to be a good month.

I had a request for more examples of wearing black and brown together and so I am here now with some examples. My previous post was mostly showing shoes/accessories and so I hope these examples show more how to combine tops and bottoms. There are many shades of brown as you can see and pretty much any of these looks can be replaced with a different brown. I searched for more dark/chocolate brown examples, but right now there aren't many to show, but you can pair black with chocolate brown. I wish I had an example of that. The brown leather jacket with the black jean and the girl with the black dress and brown tights are the closest examples of a darker brown I could find. I absolutely love the coppery and rust colored brown with black, that is my favorite. The look above with the black jeans, black printed cardigan and polka dot shirt is to show how easy it is to throw on a brown, of any shade, shirt with your black pants and cardigan. Also, you can pair your brown trousers with black blazers. Brown skirts with black tops, black dress with brown blazers or jackets and of course brown or black sweaters with the opposite in pants. Not only is it a lost rule that you can't wear brown and black together, BUT it is actually fashion forward to pair them together. Don't think because you are wearing a black dress that you have to wear black shoes with it or that you have to wear black tights. Don't think that because you are wearing brown that you can't wear your favorite black shoes with them or that you have to wear your black purse. Your man can wear his camel church shoes with this black slacks all he wants. Mix it up! I hope you can see the possibilities of this combo. Also, if you OWN what you wear then it doesn't really matter what you wear.

|| Detroit's Abandoned Houses ||

Gosh, who knew Detroit was becoming such an abandoned city? I had no idea until my friend Savanna mentioned this on her blog. How interesting to go from 2 million citizens to under 800,000 in just a short amount of years. To have over 12,000 homes and buildings abandoned. Photographer Kevin Bauman has been interested in photographing abandonment for years and decided over the last ten years to photograph the series called 100 Abandoned Houses. You can take a look at more of the houses and read more of the info over here. ALSO, I love his Small Churches series if you want to see more than the below you can go here. I would say those churches are looking prettty abandoned as well.

Last Sunday at church Jachen wore his black suit and his camel/cognac colored church shoes. Some twerp fifteen year old boy came up to him and said to him "don't you know you can't wear brown and black together." I am here to tell you, you can. Somehow some people are still thinking that is a rule. So if you are one of them, it's time to realize that is a long lost fashion rule and it has been lost for a few years. However, it IS best combined when combined well. These are just a few examples of people wearing black and brown together very successfully. You don't have to be as fancy as them, you can just throw on some brown boots or brown oxfords with your black tights and you got a great look.
