Sunday, yesterday, we went on a drive to see the Neuschwanstein Castle. This was Jachen's first time, but I had been to it when I was an Au pair here in Switzerland a couple years ago, see here, and wanted to go back. I wanted to go before the snow came, so yesterday it was...and what a gorgeous day it was and the trees were stunning...much better than when I went in winter. The drive there was SOOO beautiful. I don't know what it is about Germany, but every time I enter Germany it makes me feel like I am in the States.

Around noon we stood in line to get tickets to go inside the castle, but saw the next tour available wasn't until almost 4:00! Crazy. So we decided not to go in and just enjoy the hike and the castle from the outside. There are a few different ways to get up to the castle. You can either pay for a bus ride up, pay for a horse carriage ride up or several different walking paths. We decided to hike up a trail that was shorter but much steeper. It was a beautiful trail, we were surrounded by gorgeous trees, as you can see from the pictures. We even stopped to take a picture of ourselves on the trail...and you can see from my expression I was ready to be done hiking.

Once we finally got to the top, we enjoyed the castle and it's surroundings then hiked up to a few look out points. First we hiked to the lookout where you can see the other castle, Hohenschwangau where the king of the Neuschwanstein castle grew up, and a beautiful lake. Then we hiked up to the bridge that has a gorgeous view of Neuschwanstein. Then we decided to take the long trail back down to our car.

On our way home we stopped at the quant old city of Fussen, it's near the castle. It's an old city with an old wall still surrounding it. Walked around, almost got a cookie ball thing, but didn't, heard some Swiss horn's being played{see in video} and then drove back home.

A great day with the hubby. I sure love him.
